Movies of 2012 (I May or May Not Watch) - Part 1

It's almost mid-year and a lot of good movies have already been released. Hey, Avengers Assemble is still showing in many theaters! You should go see it instead of just searching for torrents (they're still crappy copies, by the way - I checked!) Seriously though, it's the weekend so you might as well spend a few bucks to watch it.

15 Movies of 2012

Since I can't seem to get enough of movies (mostly because I watched most of them for free), I have gathered and created a list of those movies you should watch out for or probably want to see. I'm actually looking forward to seeing some of these.

Check them out!

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

What could be more exciting than a movie with a mash-up of the events of the American Civil War and vampire hunting? How about the prospect that President Abe Lincoln is not really dead but has gone underground and is walking the night to this day? If you love paranormal and vampire flicks, you'll dig this one. Based on the novel by Seth Grahame-Smith with the same name, the movie stars Benjamin Walker (Flags of Our Fathers) as the President and Tim Burton (well, you know him) is producing. This Buffy-ish (they slay vampires here)  is coming to theaters on the 22nd of June.

May Watch It.

Amazing Spider-Man
The Amazing Spider-Man

Spider-Man. The first thing that came to my mind? Tobey Maguire. That's why I wasn't so enthusiastic about this newest take on the life of Peter Parker. Although, I must admit that Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) and Emma Stone (Crazy, Stupid, Love) looked good together on the trailer. Watch Spidey battle it out with the Lizard this coming July 3. Oh, Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) is directing.

May Not Watch It.

The Bourne Legacy

If you love spy games and war movies, this one will definitely appeal to you. From the series created by author Robert Ludlum, this movie takes off on the aftermath of Jason Bourne's actions in The Bourne Ultimatum. Yes, you should expect a new set of casts. Notice, this is about "Bourne's legacy" because Jason is no longer a part of it. For someone with a love and hate relationship with the first 3 Bourne movies (they were so different from the books), I don't know what to expect from this one. But, there's Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz plus Edward Norton!

I'm actually looking forward to watching this movie just because there were parts shot here in the Philippines. I want to see how that goes. Well, expect this movie helmed by Tony Gilroy on the 3rd of August. And I know what you're thinking - that is an ugly movie poster! Don't worry, according to Wikipedia, that one is just a teaser poster.

May Watch It.

Brave
Brave

A year of movies is just incomplete without exciting and interesting animation. This year, we get a bunch of them - including Brave. Set in medieval Scotland, this charmer of a movie tells of a story of a princess who has broken an age-old tradition so she can prove herself. Watch this Mark Andrews (The Incredibles) creation on June 22.

May Watch It.

The Cabin In The Woods
The Cabin In The Woods

Got excited by Chris Hemsworth's performance in Thor and The Avengers? It's time you see him stripped of that superhero costume and play a role of an average American guy. Check out The Cabin in the Woods. From the same guy who helmed The Avengers and Thor, this horror film is not what you think it is. Sure, there are zombies and werewolf; but there is much more. Just go see it when it hits the theater, will yah? Anyway, it's been released in the United States on April 13 but it's yet to hit Manila theaters.

May Not Watch It (Though I sure would love to see Chris in shirts and jeans.)

The Cold Light of Day
The Cold Light of Day

You've seen him wield swords and arrows in Immortals last year. That one is as lame as it could get, by the way. Anyway, this year Henry Cavill stars as a Wall Street trader in The Cold Light of Day alongside Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver. The plot is about a supposed happy vacation in Spain turned into a deadly game against operatives who will do everything to retrieve a mysterious briefcase.

Watch out for this action flick on September 7. It's already been released in the UK, though.

May Watch It (But, I need free tickets!)

The Dark Knight Rises
The Dark Knight Rises

Along with The Avengers and (perhaps) The Amazing Spider-Man, The Dark Knight Rises is one of the most anticipated movies of this year. This one introduces Bane and Cat Woman, two villains from the Batman world. Anne Hathaway will play as Cat Woman and Bane will be played by Tom Hardy. Christian Bale reprises the role of (who else?) Batman.

One more month and you'll see the last of the film in the Batman series helmed by Christopher Nolan. Surely, this will not be the last time we'll see Batman? Catch it on July 20.

May Watch It.

The Expendables 2
The Expendables 2

Missed seeing Chuck Norris going "Rambo" in Vietnam? Wait, that's a different actor. Whatever. Anyway, it seems that Mr. Norris has finally came out from under the rock he's been hiding for and decided it's a good day to be in a movie. So, you'll see him exchange bullets and grenades alongside the originals of The Expendables which include Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews and Randy Couture. Bruce Willis returns with a full role and Jean-Claude Van Damme joins in the fun.

And much like his brother Chris, Liam Hemsworth is also all over the place. He play the role of Billy the Kid (aptly so since most of the casts are way too old and out of his league). Catch this ensemble action flick on August 17.

May Watch It. (Hey, Mr. Norris is my father's favorite and watching his films had been our bonding time when I was a grade schooler.)

G.I. Joe: Retaliation
G.I. Joe: Retaliation

Not many people are happy with the first G.I. Joe movie but I liked it. I enjoyed watching Sienna Miller and Rachel Nichols - aren't they gorgeous? So, I was excited with the prospect of another Joe movie. However, I was disappointed to know that those two babes aren't coming back. Why oh why? But, there's still Channing Tatum and the idea of The Rock and Bruce Willis joining the cast seems to abate that disappointment a little.

If you're one of the fan of the movie, expect this to hit the theaters on the 29th of next month. I guess, I'll see you folks. :)

May Watch It. (That's one hot armed officer on the poster so I chose it over the other teaser posters.)

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

If you've enjoyed the entire Lord of the Rings franchise, you must be excited with the prospect of seeing some of your favorite LOTR characters on screens once again. Well, at least I am. Peter Jackson brings you The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. The movie tackles the adventures and journey of Bilbo Baggins as he tries to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom or Erebor from the dragon Smaug.

Excited yet? Well, you still have until December 14 to save up for tickets and popcorn. Orlando Bloom and Elijah Wood will be there, by the way.

May Watch It. (I love me an Orlando Bloom with long, straight, silky hair and a quiver. Har har)

Hotel Transylvania
Hotel Transylvania

How would you like Adam Sandler as a Dracula? Well, his voice anyway. Another animation film of this year is about Hotel Transylvania (I'm guessing the place is based on Bran Castle) and it is portrayed as five-star resort for, well, monsters. The plot is actually about Dracula's quest to protect his daughter from falling in love with the mortal who visited the resort unexpectedly.

Hmm. This should be fun. Let's all head to the theaters on the 28th of September to watch this creation from Columbia pictures, okay?

May Watch It.

Ice Age 4: Continental Drift
Ice Age 4: Continental Drift

Coming this July 13 is the latest installment of Ice Age. It follows the events that takes place a few years after Dawn of the Dinosaurs. Jennifer Lopez, Peter Dinklage (Yes, Tyrion Lannister), Nikki Minaj and Draje  are joining the voice talents.

May Watch It. (I enjoyed the other Ice Age films; this one should also be good.)

Jack the Giant Killer
Jack The Giant Killer

This one will come out March next year but was initially set for launch in June. Hence, I have to include this in the list. Well, they can't afford to compete with The Dark Knight Rises plus there's The Hobbit in December. Also, they wanted to use the time to perfect special effects.

Anyway, you know that this one is based on that fairy tale right? No need explaining. Oh, and Ewan McGregor will help fight those giants. Nice.

May Watch It.

Lockout
Lockout

Like The Cabin In The Woods, Lockout has already been released in North America. It's yet to hit theaters here in Manila so I included it. Award-winning Guy Pierce stars in this film as a CIA Agent who needs to save the president's daughter played by Maggie Grace. And we're talking about going to the outer space and do heroic deeds. The plot is set in future America (2079).

May Watch It. (I like Guy Pierce and it's really interesting to see Maggie Grace after she portrayed the role of a 16-year old in Taken.)

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted
Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted

The animals try to escape again - this time to Monte Carlo. Follow the adventures of Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, and Gloria the Hippopotamus along with the penguins and chimps on June 8 in this new installment of Madagascar.

May Watch It. (They are lovable!)

Men In Black 3
Men In Black 3

It's been, what, 10 years since the last MIB movie. I wonder why it took them that long to figure out they need another Men in Black installment. Anyway, the plot of the movie will bring back Agent J to the past to save Agent K form being assassinated and changing the course of history. In theaters May 25.

May Watch It. (I'd like to see Lady Gaga transform into an alien. Haha.)

There you go, some of the movies you may want to check out during one of those movie weekends with your family or friends. I have to divide this post into two so watch out for the next batch.
